Introducing the GR-09 Guitar Synthesizer, the latest product to join the Roland GR-series guitar synthesizers. The difference is that this one's for every guitarist. First of all, it feels so right. Next, using it is so simple and intuitive to a degree that no other guitar synthesizer comes close to. And because of all the synthesizer technology Roland has, its performance and musical expressiveness are unbeatable. Now you can use the latest digital textures in your music without changing any guitar-playing techniques. It's ideal for pro guitarists as well as amateurs, and for any kind of music; for live performance and home recording or just to get started with MIDI. The GR-09 sets up right on the floor like your other effects and just as easily.
Minimal installation gets you maximum performance.
-------------------------------------------------
You don't need any tools to mount the GK-2A/GK-2 Synthesizer Driver on your favorite guitar. Plug the GK-2A/GK-2 into the GR-09, and if the GR-09's connected to your amp, you're in for an amazing time.
The GK-2A/GK-2 easily mounts on guitars fitted with steel strings, whether they're electric or acoustic, and regardless of guitar body shape. The GK-2A features an even smaller pickup so it can be installed even on guitars equipped with vibratos like the Floyd Rose.
Because the GR-09 features an extremely precise pitch/envelope detection circuit and increased signal processing speed, you get the benefit of extremely accurate and instantaneous response. This is one guitar synthesizer that lets you concentrate on performance, without any of the frustration experienced with other synthesizers. That means those lightning-quick passages you worked so hard at mastering, your great hammer-ons, pull-offs, chokes and other traditional guitar techniques, even bottleneck and slide, can all be used to great effect.
And since the GR-09 Guitar Synthesizer is a floor unit, setting it up and using it is as simple as your effects. It's also just as lightweight and compact as other guitar effects units.
Play sounds you've always wanted to.
-----------------------------------
Using the GR-09 lets you access Roland's latest digital sounds created by processing highest-quality PCM waveforms through advanced digital synthesis techniques. The GR-09 comes with 180 preset Tones specially selected to complement guitar synthesizer applications. Ranging from natural acoustic sounds like amazing pianos, stings and brass to powerful synth textures (including vintage Roland GR-300 guitar synth sounds) that can cut through any mix, the preset Tones give you loads of expressive power.
If you'd like more Tones, you can install the optional GR-09E-1 expansion board to access another 180 Tones that even include ethnic percussion and Sound FX. With the add-on board, you've got an amazing 360 sounds you can get the most out of using the GR-09's 28-voice polyphony.
Patch Structure
---------------
You can select two Tones (Main and Sub Tones) and play them simultaneously. You've also got the ability to assign any of four modes -- Main Tone alone, Sub Tone alone, Main and Sub Tones and mute -- to each string. For instance, you can play chords and a bass line with different sounds by assigning organ to the first four strings and bass to the 5th and 6th. Or if a really fat sound is wanted, layer piano and strings. Each string can also have its own note shift.
Preset Tones are easy to customize using the attack, release and brightness parameters. You can even process your sounds by adding pro-quality digital chorus (25 variations) and reverb (31 variations) effects without having to make complicated settings. Your customized settings can be stored to a Patch and the GR-09 will store up to 128 of them, ready for instant recall.
Control it all as you play.
--------------------------
All you need to do for any editing procedure is to use the two selector dials. All the modes and Patch parameters you can select are shown right on the GR-09 front panel, so you don't have to consult a manual for every step. With the GR-09's footswitches, you can conveniently select a Patch, and control Hold, Modulation, Pitch Shift and Tuner functions.
For more realtime control, use the rear panel jacks to connect a volume pedal and an assignable pedal to which you can assign parameters such as Main to Sub Tone balance, brightness, wah, pitch and modulation. And even during performance, you can use the GK-2A/GK-2 Synthesizer Driver controls to set master volume level, switch between the GR synth sound and your direct sound, or a mix of both sounds, and to select footswitch mode.
Versatile outputs increase performance options.
----------------------------------------------
If you're using a single amp setup, you can mix your direct sound with the synthesized sound and route the mix from the GR-09's Main Output to the amp. If you want to add an effect like distortion to the direct guitar sound, route the signal through the Guitar Output and Return jacks at the unit's rear.
For recording, you can run the synthesizer sound to the mixing console in stereo and the guitar signal from the Guitar Output jack through your effects units and then to the guitar amplifier.
A great way to get into MIDI.
----------------------------
The GR-01 is an ideal guitar-to-MIDI interface for controlling a sampler or some other MIDI sound source. With the GR-09 you can use your guitar to input data into MIDI sequencers or software-driven PC sequencing programs.
